Vehicles

We have two 4.2TD Toyota landcruisers of 1990s vintage.

We’ve done most of the vehicle prep ourselves working with and under the expert guidance of Julian at Overland Cruisers

The cars were in fairly good condition when we bought them but as they were fitted for English driving conditions we needed to re spec them for African ‘roads’.

With this in mind we:

  • Added second 70 litre long range tanks (Excel)
  • Upgraded the suspension and added cast correctors (Old Man Emu)
  • Swapped to mud tyres (BFG KM2s)
  • Added snorkels and diff breathers so the beasts can swim, play in mud and breath on the dusty roads
  • Bull bars for the odd ‘cow in the road’ incident
  • Driving lights for those occasions when we are forced to drive at night
  • Centre diff lock switch to enable driving in low range without centre diff (useful for sand driving)
  • Recovery points (will be useful when Andrew needs to be pulled out of the mud)
  • Added a winch to one car and a fridge and split charge system to the other.
  • Roof racks for tents and gear.
  • Storage systems and racks for all the stuff that needs to go into the car.

In addition we performed a full service on the cars and also stripped front and rear axles, refitting with love.
